I have been considering having Sam do a commission for me for some time. Especially after seeing works like these:

I tried to convince my wife to have him do a drawing for us, but she thought I was crazy! She didn't understand why I just didn't draw one myself. I tried to explain to her I thought Sam would do a lot better than me, and besides, I didn't work in color. Then Sam drew "The Redhead Girl":

My wife needed no further convincing after seeing this masterpiece. I ask Sam to do a commission for me the next day, and my wife was finally in agreement. So I sent him a picture of my boy and this is the result:
That's my boy!!, (and he is also my avatar)... cutest boy on Deviant!
And a link with me holding the finished drawing in my hands: [link]
I have never been interested in doing anything in color, partially because I'm slightly colorblind, and I didn't feel the need to. After seeing this drawing in person, and holding it in my hands, has motivated me to give it a try. When Sam would say he lost 20 percent during scanning, my thoughts pfffft... sure Sam. But I guarantee, after seeing Sam's work in person, that 20 percent is an understatement! Trust me. This drawing is more colorful and vibrant than I could have ever imagined. Even standing 3 to 4 feet away it looks like a photo. I found the inspiration I needed to work in color. I can only pray to be half as good as Sam.

There is that old saying, "the magic is in the magician, not in the wand."
You see? The really loose 20% quality during scanning
